Reed Diffuser Bottle Selection: Shape, Material, and Capacity
The bottle is a visible part of a reed diffuser’s identity, but its job is also practical: it must work with the fragrance formula, reeds, closure, filling process, and shipping pack. For a B2B order, compare complete bottle-and-formula samples before choosing a design from a catalog image.
Material and Formula Compatibility
Glass, ceramic, and some polymer containers offer different looks and handling requirements. Material alone does not establish compatibility with a diffuser base. Ask the supplier to test the specific bottle, coating, seal, and formula together. Check for leakage, discoloration, coating changes, and evaporation under the conditions in which the product will be stored and sold.
For a ceramic or coated container, confirm whether the liquid contacts a liner or the decorated surface. If considering a polymer bottle, request documented compatibility testing for the actual fragrance base and intended shelf life. Do not assume that a material accepted for one formula will suit another.
Capacity and Intended Use
A smaller bottle may suit a sample or gift set; a larger format may suit a retail or hospitality range. Choose a nominal capacity only after checking the usable fill volume, headspace, reed opening, and package dimensions. Fragrance life varies with the formula, reed type and count, airflow, temperature, and how the consumer uses the product. Ask for a tested sample instead of promising a fixed number of weeks from bottle size alone.
If you plan a range of sizes, ask the supplier which bottle and closure components can be shared. This can simplify packaging and replenishment, but confirm the actual options for your design.
Shape, Stability, and Shipping
Round, square, tapered, and sculptural bottles can all work when the full package is engineered for them. Compare physical samples for stability when filled, ease of labeling, shelf presentation, and protection in the shipping carton. A heavy base or an unusual shape may affect freight weight or packing requirements; request a quote and a transport test for the proposed specification rather than relying on a generic cost or breakage estimate.
For a custom mold or decorated finish, ask the factory to quote the tooling, sample approval steps, minimum order quantity, and production schedule for your actual order. These terms vary by factory, material, and design.
Neck, Closure, and Reeds
The opening must fit the closure and the intended reed bundle. In the specification sheet, record the neck’s inner and outer dimensions, the finish or thread, the closure and seal, and the filled bottle height. Test the assembled product for leakage during shipping and for stable reed placement during use. A visually matching cap is not proof that it seals the bottle.
Color and Finish
Clear glass displays the liquid; frosted, colored, or coated bottles change how it appears on a shelf. Request finished samples and check color consistency, label adhesion, and coating compatibility with the actual fragrance formula. Ask the factory to identify which finishes are available on existing bottles and which require a new production step.
What to Send with a Bottle Inquiry
To compare supplier proposals, provide:
- The intended market and use case, target fill volume, and reference images.
- The fragrance base or a sample for compatibility testing.
- Preferred bottle material, shape, finish, closure, reeds, and label area.
- Expected order volume, destination, and packing requirements.
- Any documentation or testing required by your buyer or destination market.
