Can I Customize the Bottle and Packaging for My Diffusers?
Yes. Nearly every element of a reed diffuser can be customized, from the glass vessel to the reed color to the outer carton. The question is not whether you can customize, but how much customization makes sense at your volume and budget. Here is a complete breakdown.
What You Can Customize
Glass bottle
- Shape: round, square, cylindrical, faceted, or fully custom sculptural forms
- Size: common volumes are 50 ml, 100 ml, 150 ml, 200 ml, and 300 ml
- Glass color: clear, frosted, amber, black, cobalt blue, or custom Pantone spray coating
- Finish: glossy, matte, electroplated, or gradient color
Cap and collar
- Materials: aluminum, wood (beech, bamboo, walnut), plastic, or zinc alloy
- Finishes: brushed, anodized, painted, or natural oil-treated wood
- Custom logo engraving or debossing on wood and metal caps
Reeds
- Material: rattan (natural), fiber (synthetic), or cotton
- Color: natural, black, white, or custom-dyed to match brand palette
- Length: cut to match bottle height, typically 20 cm to 30 cm
- Quantity per bottle: 5 to 10 reeds depending on bottle opening
Labeling
- Adhesive labels: paper, transparent BOPP, metallic, or textured
- Printing: offset, silk screen, hot foil stamping, or digital print
- Direct printing on glass: silk screen up to 4 colors, ceramic decal for dishwasher-safe designs
Outer packaging
- Options: kraft sleeve, white card box, rigid setup box, magnetic closure box, or window box
- Printing: CMYK offset, Pantone spot colors, foil stamping, embossing, spot UV
- Inserts: EVA foam, cardboard dividers, or molded pulp trays

Stock vs. Custom: When Each Makes Sense
Choose stock components when:
- Your order is under 2,000 units
- You are testing a new market or sales channel
- You need product in hand within 30 days
- Your brand differentiation comes from fragrance and label design rather than vessel shape
At Aromiso, we keep over 40 bottle molds in stock across 50 ml to 300 ml sizes. Pairing a stock bottle with a well-designed label and custom box gives a tailored look without mold fees.
Invest in custom tooling when:
- You order 5,000+ units annually and need a distinctive silhouette
- Your retail price point exceeds $40 and the unboxing experience matters
- You want to prevent competitors from copying your exact presentation
- You plan to build a multi-SKU line around one signature vessel
The Customization Process
- Share your brief. Send sketches, reference images, target dimensions, and budget range.
- Receive 3D renderings. The factory provides CAD drawings or 3D renders within 3 to 5 days.
- Approve a prototype. For custom glass, a hand-made sample takes 10 to 15 days. For custom caps, CNC samples take 7 to 10 days.
- Confirm pre-production sample. Once tooling is built, the factory produces 5 to 10 samples from the actual mold for your sign-off. Allow 7 days.
- Bulk production. Full production runs 15 to 25 days depending on volume and decoration complexity.
Total timeline from brief to finished goods: 45 to 60 days for a fully custom project.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Designing a bottle with a narrow neck. Reed diffusers need an opening of at least 15 mm to fit 6 to 8 reeds comfortably. Below 12 mm, reeds bunch and wick poorly.
- Ignoring fill-line visibility. Frosted or dark glass hides the liquid level. If customers cannot see how much product remains, they may over-order reeds or discard early.
- Skipping drop testing. Custom glass shapes with thin walls or heavy bases can crack in transit. Require a 1-meter drop test on packed units before approving bulk.
- Over-customizing at low volume. A $2,500 mold spread across 1,000 units adds $2.50 per bottle. The same mold across 10,000 units adds only $0.25.
