Batch Traceability in Fragrance Production: Systems and Requirements
Batch traceability — the ability to track every unit of finished product back to its raw material sources and forward to its distribution destinations — is both a regulatory obligation and a commercial necessity in the fragrance industry. When an allergen contamination is discovered, a candle wax batch fails flammability testing, or a regulatory authority requests documentation, the speed and completeness of traceability records determine whether a brand faces a targeted recall or a full market withdrawal. B2B buyers should treat traceability as a core supplier qualification criterion, not an afterthought.
Regulatory Drivers
EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009
Article 21 requires that cosmetic products (including scented body care items) be traceable throughout the supply chain. The responsible person must be able to identify:
